The Sounds of Summer

Aug 19

Beach Lighthouse CancunLong ago when I was young and single and I thought my ex-husband was a great guy and we would someday have a happy life together, he used to take me sailing on his parents’ boat. I loved the feeling of freedom we had out on the lake. The days were carefree and romantic. He loved me. I loved him.

We’d listen to the sounds of summer and dream of our happy future.

Now? I still love the music of those happy days. I still feel hopeful for the future.

Summer is winding down, so in these last few days before fall begins let’s take a virtual summer vacation together.

Directions: (Yes, this blog post has directions!) Start the top video, then scroll down and start the second video. Watch the pretty vacation photos go by. They should end around the same time. Then scroll down to the comment box and tell me your favorite beach.

  1. Oh, I would get dizzy with the feeling of BLISS listening to “Sailing” by Christopher Cross. I remember driving up and down PCH in Orange County one evening in my teens. I was listening to this and singing it really loudly with the windows rolled down and smelling the salt air coming in from these beaches: Long Beach, Seal Beach, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. I felt as though I was floating in the clouds. Thanks for evoking that memory!

  2. I totally remember listening to Christopher Cross! I couldn’t get the video — it says private? Reminds me, though, of my summers at Jones Beach as a teenager!

  3. My favorite beach is Popum Beach in Maine. Beautiful! But super cold.

I love Maine, but I don’t think I could ever go in the water there. This southern girl would freeze to death.

  4. I’ve only sailed a couple times. Most of my life has been land-locked. But I can see, now, how this could be a life soundtrack. Love the soundtrack/image combo!

Hi, Nancy! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I loved the songs on your bloghop post.

  5. I was never a fan of Christopher Cross, but I love being out on the water on any type of boat.

You know, Jennifer, I’m not really a big fan of Christopher Cross either, but this song brings back a flood of memories. Life was so simple back then.

  6. Oooh, lovely. Felt like a mini-vacation looking at the beautiful pictures and Sailing with Christopher Cross, have always loved that song.

My favorite beach would be… whatever one I visited last! Right now, that’s one called Sycamore Cove, in Ventura County, California. Something very magical about the beach, whether they are the ones with soft white sand, crashing waves against big rocks.

I love beaches with big rocks, but I don’t see them very often. The beaches that are closest to me only have sand.

  7. “Sailing” was probably my favorite song of Christopher Cross. Now you’ve got me wondering whatever happened to him — off to Google. 🙂

Hi, Donna, did you find out whatever happened to Christopher Cross?

  8. Lovely! I recognized some of the beach scenes. Take me back to the Big Island!

    • Elizabeth Lee /

Hi, Risa, thanks for stopping by my blog. I think another trip to the Big Island is definitely needed!

  9. One of those beaches looks like Jamaica. That is for me, hands down, the best place in the world, partially because it’s beautiful and partially because it is where my husband is from. And I LOVE that song.

Beaches can look so much alike sometimes. None of the pictures I used are from Jamaica. I’ve never been there. I’ll have to go someday.

  10. Thanks for the combo experience! Creative. Love Christopher Cross’s “Sailing”…although I don’t think I’ve actually been on a sailboat! Gonna add that to my bucket list!

    • Elizabeth Lee /

A sailboat can be a lot of fun. I hope you get a chance someday.

  11. Sailing is the kind of song that make you sway!

I love Christopher Cross’ Sailing, although I’m not fan of sailing. 🙂 As for beaches … we spend almost every summer weekend at the Jersey shore. Have you been there?

    • Elizabeth Lee /

No, I’ve never made it to the Jersey shore. I’ll have to put it on my bucket list. I live within driving distance of some pretty nice gulf coast beaches, so that’s where we always went when I was growing up.
