Auditions Take 2

Sep 15

Comedy and TragedyThree weeks ago I auditioned for two plays in one weekend. I didn’t get either part, which made me a little sad. I really wanted to be in one of the plays because I have friends who are on the production staff. I knew it would be great fun to spend time with them. Oh, well.

Y’all know that I’m working on learning to deal with rejection and to step outside my comfort zone. So I tried hard not to take it personally, and dusted myself off and tried again.

A week ago, I auditioned for two more plays in one weekend. I don’t know what the heck is going on with these theatre groups that they can’t space out their auditions, but I digress.

The second audition was much longer than I expected because there were auditions for acting and singing and dancing. Yes, even dancing. It’s a musical.

I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is that during the last minute of the dancing audition I did something odd and now have an injury. Had to go see the doctor and everything. Hopefully, I will recover in the next four weeks.

The good news is that I have a part in the musical.

Rehearsals start four weeks from tomorrow. I have to learn an accent which will stretch me as an actor. There will be 18 performances. If I had gotten the role I wanted in Wizard of Oz, I would have only had five performances.

I’m happy with the way things turned out. But mostly, I’m glad that I persisted. I’m stepping outside my comfort zone and I’m starting to find the magic.

  1. Great! Now break a leg! That is, if you haven’t already done that.

Nope, I didn’t break a leg. Thank goodness. It’s a joint problem, but I AM on crutches. 🙁

  3. Good for you Elizabeth! Any opportunity I get to step out of my comfort zone- I take. It keeps me on my toes, or in your case maybe crutches?

  4. So glad you stayed with it. The injury will heal. The memory will last.

How fun to be part of a musical. Some of my fondest memories are of the musicals I was a part of in high school. Good luck, and I hope your injury heals quickly.
