Where I’ve Been
I OBVIOUSLY haven’t been here.
You may have noticed.
Instead I’ve been following my own advice and re-inventing myself in midlife. My most recent incarnation has been spending a lot of time on stage in a local production of A Christmas Carol by Dickens. I brushed up on my Cockney accent and had a delightful time in Merrie Ole England with Mr. Scrooge.
My character, Mrs. Dilber, was comic relief for a play that definitely has a dark side. As far as I’m concerned, the best sound in the world is not the applause at the end of the show…it’s the laughter. And I made ’em laugh!
Yes, that’s me. Yes, my costume was padded both fore and aft to give me a larger “presence” onstage. I also blacked out a tooth every night. It was fabulous!
